Montana Horseback Rides

Horseback riding in Glacier National Park is incredible.  Wild River Adventures is the only outfitter in the Glacier National Park area that can offer whitewater rafting and horseback riding with one stop convenience. These trips combine the best outdoor activities in Glacier Country into one full day of fun!

We have teamed up with Swan Mountain Outfitters to make these unique trips possible. The Swan Mountain wranglers will lead your family on, either a 2 or 1-hour journey through beautiful spruce forests and wide-open meadows with great views of the Park and the Great Bear Wilderness Area. Their horses are well trained and are experienced with riders of all ability levels.

We have teamed up with Swan Mountain Outfitters to make these unique trips possible. After your horseback ride adventure, the fun continues with a 3-4 hour Whitewater Raft Adventure. All of our trips begin with whitewater rafting instruction from our experienced guides. We are an industry leader and guarantee state of the art self-bailing rafts to insure a more comfortable ride.

After a few gentle miles, our river narrows down and enters a beautiful canyon with fantastic rapids like Jaws, Pinball, and Screaming Right Turn. These are some of the best rapids in Montana and provide whitewater excitement all summer long. It’s the perfect way to wash off some trail dust and escape from the afternoon heat!

No river or horseback experience is needed for this adventure. This stretch of river is suitable for children age 12 and over during our Spring Runoff season (May-June) and for all children age 6 and older during normal Summer Flows.

From May to September air temperatures in Glacier be able to vary from +40F to +90F. With the proper clothing rafting can be fun no matter what the weather brings. Rain gear and fleece jackets are available for sale or rent at our office and are included when weather or river conditions require them. Eyeglass retainers and aqua sox are also available for sale. Lunch is NOT included.

Full Day Flathead Horseback Riding/Whitewater Rafting Trips

These great adventure trips are especially popular with families because they combine the best that Glacier has to offer into one full day of fun! Wild River Adventures is the only Montana outfitter in the Glacier National Park area that can offer white water rafting and horseback riding with one stop convenience. These popular combination trips are perfect for families or groups who want a full day of Montana adventure.

For these unique trips we have teamed up with our neighbors, Swan Mountain Outfitters, for a morning trail ride in the heart of the Flathead National Forest. Swan Mountain will take your family on a four-hour journey through mountain trails featuring great views of Glacier National Park. Their horses are well trained and their wranglers are experienced with riders of all ability levels.

After lunch we will take you on our Half Day Whitewater Raft Adventure. This eight-mile river trip floats by towering mountains and through scenic rock walled canyons. It’s the perfect way to wash off some trail dust and escape from the afternoon heat as we run some of the nicest whitewater in Glacier country.

No rafting or horseback riding experience is needed for this adventure. This stretch of river is suitable for children age 12 and over during our Spring Runoff season (May-Mid-June), and for children age 6 and older during normal Summer Flows.

Half Day Horseback Riding/Whitewater Rafting Trips in Glacier Park

We have teamed up with Swan Mountain Outfitters in Glacier National Park to make these unique trips possible. Their horses are well trained and are experienced with riders of all ability levels. The wranglers at Swan Mountain Outfitters will lead your family on a two hour through the Apgar forest. Riders love the combination of cruising underneath the green canopy of a lodgepole forest while simultaneously getting great views of the Flathead River and the Oxbow of McDonald Creek. Keep your eyes out for wildlife such as black bear, deer, coyotes and beaver.

The ride finishes around 11:00, which gives you some time to grab a bite to eat and make your way back to Wild River Adventures in West Glacier. You will then return to Wild River Headquarters and join us for our 12:30 p.m. or 2 p.m. raft trip.

Four Day Horseback Riding/Whitewater Rafting Trips

We have teamed up with our neighbors, Swan Mountain Outfitters, to create an unforgettable vacation. This unique family vacation adventure combines an overnight stay in Montana’s backcountry with two and a half days of whitewater excitement!

The trip begins with a day of horseback riding. You will ride through the heart of the Flathead National Forest and enjoy stunning views of Glacier National Park. At the end of the day the wranglers will escort you to an established base camp complete with tents and a cook!

Day Two begins with a big hearty cowboy breakfast and a leisurely ride back to our headquarters. Around noon we bid our horses and wranglers goodbye and set off for the Middle Fork of the Flathead River!

Each mile of this rafting trip is special with alternating stretches of white water and superb scenery. We pass magnificent waterfalls, float through cliff-walled canyons, and run lots of river rapids. These adventure trips include the big waves of Browns Hole Rapid (Class III-IV) one of the best rapids on the Middle Fork!

We camp at private spots beneath shady Cottonwood trees. Wild River Adventures has all the equipment to make camping out on the river a comfortable experience. Our Montana guides will prepare hot delicious dinners while you relax beside the fire.

The final day offers more spectacular scenery and the biggest river rapids of the trip. This is thrilling whitewater that the whole family will enjoy! It’s the perfect end to an unforgettable experience!

Overnighters are run expedition-style with all our gear carried on board the rafts. We are completely self-sufficient and free to travel at our own pace.

Our trips are all inclusive. Sleeping bags, tents, wetsuits, meals, on the river, and shuttles are included in the price.
