Trip Overview
The Middle Fork Overnight Rafting Adventure combines exciting Class II-III whitewater with spectacular scenery along the southern boundary of Glacier National Park. This expedition-style trip is perfect for families, first-time rafters, and adventure seekers looking to experience Montana’s wilderness while camping alongside one of the country’s most scenic rivers. Guests can expect a blend of thrilling rapids, peaceful stretches of river, abundant wildlife, and comfortable riverside camping, all while our experienced guides handle the logistics.
Day 1
Guests meet at the Wild River Adventures office in West Glacier before departing for the river. After checking in, they’ll meet their guides, receive a safety orientation, get fitted with rafting gear, and shuttle to the launch site.
Once on the water, the adventure begins with a mix of exciting whitewater and scenic floating along the border of Glacier National Park. Throughout the day, guests can enjoy breathtaking mountain views, crystal-clear glacial water, and opportunities to spot wildlife such as bald eagles, osprey, deer, and even bears. Midday, your guides will prepare a hearty riverside deli-style lunch featuring freshly made sandwiches or hoagies, pasta salad, chips, fresh fruit, and vegetables before continuing downstream toward camp. In the evening, guests arrive at a secluded riverside campsite where the guides set up camp while guests relax, explore the area, or cool off with a swim if conditions are safe. Guides prepare dinner before everyone gathers around the campfire to unwind and enjoy the beauty of Montana’s wilderness.
Additional Days
Guests wake up to breakfast along the river before breaking camp and loading gear back onto the rafts. Each new day brings more breathtaking wilderness, exciting whitewater, and opportunities to spot wildlife while floating through one of Montana’s most spectacular river corridors. Along the way, your guides are happy to pull over whenever the group wants to stretch their legs, take in the scenery, or simply enjoy a quiet moment along the river. As the adventure comes to a close, you’ll navigate some of the Middle Fork’s most memorable rapids—including Tunnel Rapid, Bonecrusher, Washboard, The Big Squeeze, Screaming Right, Jaws, and Pinball, depending on your launch location and river conditions—before arriving at the take-out. After the final stretch of river, you’ll shuttle back to Wild River Adventures, typically returning to West Glacier between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. on your final day.
Meals
All meals are provided throughout the trip, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. Our guides prepare fresh meals at camp and along the river, with guest favorites including Dutch oven lasagna, pork tenderloin with mango salsa, baked brie with green apples, and homemade pineapple upside-down cake. Dietary restrictions can be accommodated with advance notice, and many guests tell us they’re surprised by just how incredible the food is throughout the trip.
Camping Experience
Guests spend the night at a comfortable riverside campsite while guides handle camp setup and meal preparation. Because every overnight trip is run expedition-style, campsites vary depending on river conditions and availability, allowing guides to select peaceful, secluded locations whenever possible. Wild River Adventures provides tents, thick sleeping pads, and sleeping bags, so guests can simply relax and enjoy the experience. Evenings are spent around the campfire sharing stories, enjoying a delicious meal, and taking in breathtaking mountain scenery before falling asleep to the sounds of the river. Every camp is set up fresh for your group and completely packed out when you leave, preserving the wilderness for those who follow. With the river just steps away and breathtaking mountain scenery in every direction, you’ll enjoy front-row seats to one of Montana’s most spectacular backcountry experiences.
